Just to document what 9.1.5 is trying to say, I create a table and then spanned all the cells on the first row. Here is the XML result, at least from OOo:

text:style-name="Table_20_Contents"/\<gtr\>\<less\>/table:table-cell\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>table:covered-table-cell/\<gtr\>\<less\>/table:table-row\<gtr\>

So, the <table:covered-table-cell> element acts as a placeholder for the cells that are spanned. (Ignore the \<grt\>, etc. silly application trying to be helpful.

Anyway, see the updated resolution. I removed the language from the attribute but then re-wrote 9.1.5.
