Maybe there are databases that distinguish some sort of type for this sort of thing.  But it is not clear to me how anyone but a person who is aware of a database schema would know whether a query is bringing back such columns, and they are probably the only ones who could say specifically which column to leave out of the result-enumeration.  

There is clearly something I am missing here.  I wonder if this attribute is implemented anywhere that we could look to find out what is really going on.
