config based transformation architectures, Docbook like?

Sorry about the dumb subject line but I couldn't think of a better one, am
looking for various publically available projects for transformation of xml
dialects that have a structure similar to docbook's, that customization of the
transform is done via referencing parameters stored in a configurations file.
