There's a lot of people that think that because a certain data
representation is standard and useful for data exchange, it must therefore
make a good internal data representation to work from.  Such people will,
one hopes, remain in the business long enough to learn from their
misapprehensions, and thenceforth prove useful to the industry in their
further, wisened endeavours.
