I like your solution better, now that [I think] I understand it:
The standard CategorizedSubjectAttributeDesignatorType treats
multiple subjects that have the same subject category attribute
as if they were one categorized subject. But extensions may be
able to narrow a search to a particular <Subject> element. Also
I think an AttributeSelector could do this.
