Chris, I will say this again. Why won't you allow a Retry of the SAME EXACT MESSAGE? A new message with a new MessageId means recomputing the signature and possibly ending up with duplicates. When you mention sending the SAME message (as long as it has a NEW MessageId) that is NOT the same message. I ask for the third time. . .Why can't I send the SAME MESSAGE?

I am trying to keep things as simple as possible. I do not want to see
a different set of rules for different MSHs (sometimes you feel like
a nut, sometimes you don't...). Of course there are different rules for the ends than for the IMs! There always are. They are different layers. If you wanted the same rules, you should have accepted my proposal for message encapsulation, instead of multi-hop, back in January. <df>comments in-line</df>
