[ebxml-msg-comment] polling protocol?

I am looking for a standard protocol to receive messages from a message 
service handler (MSH) by polling.  This would be useful for both clients 
and downstream MSHs to receive messages when they are intermittently 
connected or are behind a firewall.  In skimming the Message Service 2.0 
specification, I see that it describes sending ebXML Service messages 
over HTTP and SMTP but I do not see anything for initiating a connection 
for the purpose of receiving stored messages.  Does ebXML define a 
standard protocol for polling an MSH to receive messages?
