I use xmllint --xinclude as part of my workflow. I take its output after it resolves the includes and continue processing with the full document.

some common content with other non-manpage documents but we like to

deliver the DocBook/XML manpage files as "standalone" versions to a

DocBook/XML-aware /usr/bin/man ...
