formating code

Hello everyone:
I am facing some difficulties trying to indent and highlight the syntax 
for some code. The code files are in java and in xml. I have looked 
around but nothing seems to work. In the docbook xslt there is a 
directory called "extensions" but no docs or examples. I am using xalan. 
Xalan does not seem to support regex. Can someone kindly, point out a 
good way to add support for this functionality to my customization 
sheet. I am looking to to output the results to html and fo.
