I investigated little bit more. PS files are huge only when you are
embedding TTF fonts. (I must embed them because I need some accented
characters not present in standard PS fonts.) So accept my apology for
presenting not completely correct information about XEP PS backend. I
tryed my test document without TTF embedding and it has just several
hundreds of KB what is very acceptable size for 20 pages document.

BTW: Does XEP with PDF backend supports some vector format for images
now (in 2.7 or 3)?
