Why not define a new element type in a DITA-specific namespace for use
within appinfo, e.g.:

<xs:appinfo>
  <domainsUsed 
xmlns="http://www.dita.org/namespaces/appinfo"
>(map classify-d)</domainsUsed>
<xs:appifo>
