Jim Earley, Michael Priestley, and I 
will be getting together on the phone to talk about the possibility of forming a 
DITA Member Section. We’ve tentatively scheduled the call for tomorrow, Friday, 
June 27th from 2:30 to 3:30 PM ET.  If others would like to join 
us, you’d be welcome.  If you do, send me e-mail and I’ll give you the 
phone number, make sure I have enough “ports” reserved for everyone, and I’ll 
let you know if the time for the call changes.

The OASIS rules for Member

It was suggested, by Mary I think, 
that we look at some of the Rules of Procedure for existing Member Sections. I 
haven’t done that yet.  I assume that we can find them on the OASIS 
site.

Yes, I know some of the 
details but it would be nice to get an idea from you regarding the group’s 
expectations, rationale, utility, etc. for considering this decision. Each 
member section has slightly different motives. Each MS is governed by a Steering 
Committee that meets regularly and guides the MS and its associated TCs towards 
a larger mission of the member section – so, this is a group that needs feeding 
and nurturing.  I am happy to share my experiences with you and then to 
discuss the mechanics.

[I sent Dee a reply that gave some 
of the background from my point of view.  I also said we were just starting 
to work out expectations, rationale, and the like and that I wasn’t completely 
sure that we would go forward to create a member section.

You two and me gives us three 
volunteers to talk about creating a DITA Member Section and bring a proposal 
back to the DITA TC for discussion during the 8 July TC call.

 

OASIS has taken reviving the Joint 
Committee off of the table.  That makes our task a little 
simpler.

 

As a next step we can have a call 
between the three of us or we can skip that and have a call between the three of 
us and Dee Schur the Member Section coordinator at OASIS.  Let me know your 
preference.

 

Also let me know what some good 
times for a call would be for you.

 

For my own schedule this week I am 
open during these times:

 

   Wed. 11 am to 2 pm ET, 
after 4:30 PM ET

   Thur.  after 10:30 
AM ET

   Fri. 
   9 am to 11:30 am ET and after 1:30 am ET
